How do you Install Vinyl Fence Post Caps?

Installing a vinyl fence post cap is one of those things that people are prone to overthinking. There's no nailing, no soldering, no screws, and you really don't even need glue unless you're in a particularly windy area. To install a vinyl post cap, the only thing you really need to do is to properly measure your post, buy the correct sized post cap, and press the cap over the post for a snug fit.

How to Mount Vinyl Railing on a Wood Post?

For both wood and vinyl posts, if you're wanting to install vinyl railings onto your outdoor structure you're going to need rail mount brackets. These brackets screw directly to your posts and paneling, allowing your rails to slide into place for a secure fit.

Should your Vinyl Fence Touch the Ground?

While they may look like they touch the ground, the only thing that should be touching the ground on your vinyl fence is your posts, your fence line and/or gates should NOT touch the ground. Letting your fence line touch the ground can cause a variety of issues including snow and frost damage causing your fence to lean or sag, continuous exposure to standing water can cause your fence to mold, etc. To prevent this, we recommend installing your vinyl fence about an inch or two above the ground.

Do Vinyl Fence Posts need Concrete?

No, your vinyl fence posts do not necessarily need concrete to be installed properly, however there are some things to consider if you're not going to use it. First, it's a hot topic of debate at the moment as concrete is definitively the most secure way to install your fence posts against high winds and extreme weather. However, concrete can be difficult to work with, typically requires a contractor to put in the ground, and often costs quite a bit, however the cost of concrete is far cheaper than the cost of a new vinyl fence.

That said, there is a No-Dig installation method that involves a no-dig donut to install your fence posts into the ground without needing concrete at all. While perhaps not quite as strong as concrete, these no-dig donuts cut costs on your vinyl fence significantly and are perfect for DIY installations on a budget.

How to Assemble a Vinyl Fence?

Installing a Vinyl fence is not easy feat, it requires a lot of time, patience, planning, and effort. Generally speaking, we do recommend a professional installer or contractor to work with you on assembling your fence for you, however if your are looking to cut costs on your fence or simply wish do DIY, there are a few steps for you to follow:

  1. Plan where you want each fence post (optionally a gate(s) as well) to be placed, equidistant from one another to ensure a professional look
  2. Insert your posts into the marked spots using a No-Dig Donut or concrete. This must be done first in order to install your vinyl paneling
  3. After ensuring your posts are level and stable, follow the included assembly instructions of your vinyl fence. These will look different dependent on the style of vinyl fencing you chose
  4. Finish off your fence with added hardware such as Post Caps, Gate Hardware and more
