Vinyl ADA Handrail Parts
Vinyl ADA continuous handrail systems are designed to meet accessibility and safety requirements while providing a durable, low maintenance solution for ramps, stairs, and accessible pathways. This page outlines the individual components used in these systems, what each part does, and how they work together during installation.
Products You'll Need
Wall Return Kits
Wall return kits create a smooth, code compliant termination when a handrail ends at a wall. Each kit includes an aluminum mounting bracket, a color matched cover in almond, black, khaki, or white, and stainless steel screws to secure the connection. Some models also include a threaded joiner that attaches directly into the handrail for a clean, continuous finish.
Rails
Rails are the main components of the ADA continuous handrail system and provide the graspable surface users rely on. They are available in multiple colors and lengths to match vinyl or aluminum railing systems and site requirements. Many installations include an internal aluminum stiffener to meet IRC/IBC structural load and support guidelines.
Handrail Bracket Kits
These brackets secure the handrail to walls, posts, or structural surfaces and help maintain the required ADA mounting height. They provide stability along long horizontal spans and at changes in direction. Kits are color matched to the rail system, and hardware varies depending on the mounting surface.
Joiners
Joiners connect two sections of handrail together and ensure a continuous, uninterrupted rail. Straight joiners are used for level runs, while adjustable joiners handle angle changes found on ramps or sloped transitions. Both styles use threaded ends that secure inside the rail for a tight, seamless fit.
Corners
These fixed corners create right-angle transitions where the handrail wraps around a landing or turns along a new wall or stair alignment. They are not adjustable, making them ideal for precise 90° installations. Corners integrate with the CHR rail to maintain a continuous, safe grip for users.
End Loops
End loops provide a rounded, safe, and code compliant stop for the handrail. They help meet IRC/IBC requirements for returned handrail ends that protect users from snags or abrupt edges. Installation typically requires an end cap.
Post Returns
Post returns are used when the handrail ends into a structural post instead of looping or ending at a wall. They create a clean finish without the need for end caps and maintain the continuous look of the rail system. These are commonly used on decks or freestanding railing layouts where walls are not present.
